ZRockers, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its 2025 inductees, and it never fails to spark serious debate in the ZRock.com HQ, and online.
This year’s performer category sees the induction of some undeniable heavy hitters and genre-bending artists.
Bad Company: A solid addition for their blues-infused hard rock anthems. Can’t deny those classic riffs.
Soundgarden: Finally, grunge pioneers Soundgarden, and the iconic Chris Cornell, take their rightful place. About damn time.
The White Stripes: A two-piece force that brought raw, garage-rock energy back to the mainstream. Their impact is undeniable.
We’re also seeing some artists who definitely pushed boundaries and influenced rock in their own way:
Cyndi Lauper: Her vibrant energy and unique sound crossed genres, and her influence on female artists is huge.
Outkast: While not “rock,” their genre-blending innovation absolutely shook up the music landscape and their impact resonates with rock fans who appreciate pushing boundaries.
And let’s not forget the legends being recognized in other categories:
Musical Influence Award: Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon – both incredibly influential in their respective fields, and Zevon’s rock-adjacent songwriting earns him a nod here.
Musical Excellence Award: Recognizing the incredible talents of Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins, and Carol Kaye – session musicians who laid the groundwork for countless iconic rock tracks.
ZRock.com’s take:
We’re stoked to see Soundgarden finally get the recognition they deserve. Their impact on heavy music is undeniable. Bad Company brings that classic rock swagger that we all love. The inclusion of The White Stripes feels right for their raw, influential sound.
The genre-bending choices like Cyndi Lauper and Outkast will definitely spark some debate amongst the ZRock faithful, but their influence on the broader musical landscape, and even elements of rock, can’t be ignored.
The Snubs (Because There Always Are):
Of course, no Rock Hall announcement is complete without the “who got snubbed?” conversation. We know there are plenty of bands and artists our ZRock community feels are long overdue. The wait continues for some of our personal heroes.
