This wasn’t just another festival; it was a full-throttle immersion into the heart of rock, boasting over 100 bands across four stages and delivering a barrage of special, once-in-a-lifetime moments that left the crowd roaring for more.
Monumental Performances and Surprise Guests
Sonic Temple’s debut of Metallica was nothing short of legendary. They delivered on their promise of a “No Repeat Weekend,” unleashing two completely unique sets. Friday night saw them dig deep with “…And Justice For All”‘s “The Shortest Straw,” a treat for longtime fans.
The energy was electric for Linkin Park’s first festival performance of 2025, featuring their new vocalist, Emily Armstrong. Adding to the emotion, grandson joined the band on stage for a powerful rendition of “One Step Closer.”
KORN ripped through a blistering set, kicking things off with the iconic “Blind.” They also dusted off some rarities, playing “Twisted Transistor” for the first time since 2019 and “4 U” for the first time since 2020, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
Columbus natives Beartooth made a surprise appearance, sending the hometown crowd into a frenzy of headbanging. Bad Omens brought a special guest to the stage, with HEALTH singer Jake Duzsik joining them for a powerful performance of “The Drain.”
Filter took us back to the 90s, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their massive hit “Hey Man Nice Shot,” while the weekend also delivered unforgettable sets from heavyweights like Three Days Grace, Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper, I Prevail, and Chevelle, just to name a few.
More Than Just Music: An Art and Culture Experience
What truly set Sonic Temple apart was its deep dive into the world of visual art. Renowned contemporary artists transformed the festival grounds into a living, breathing gallery. Jay Howell, the creative mind behind “Bob’s Burgers” and “Sanjay and Craig,” brought his signature whimsical and edgy characters to life. Terry Urban showcased thought-provoking mixed media pieces, blurring the lines between pop culture and fine art. Muralist Mandi Caskey (Miss Birdy) added bold, large-scale works that provided incredible backdrops for fan photos. The integration of art truly elevated Sonic Temple beyond a traditional music festival.
Immersive Activations and Unexpected Encounters
The festival grounds were alive with unique activations and lounges. Metallica fans were treated to the BLACKENED Whiskey Bar and the BLACKENED Burger Bar, the latter curated by the famed chef and “Chopped” judge Chris Santos. This exclusive pop-up delivered bold flavors and even bolder surprises, including surprise “Meat & Greets” with members of Of Mice & Men, Exodus, Ministry, and more, with every guest walking away with a special souvenir.
Other cool spots included The Dive Bar and experiences from a wide range of sponsors, ensuring there was something for everyone to explore beyond the music.
