The wait is officially over, rock fans. Riot Fest has dropped its massive 2026 lineup, and it is every bit the beautifully chaotic, genre-defying masterpiece we’ve come to expect from Chicago’s premier alternative music weekend.
Returning to its home turf at Douglass Park in Chicago from September 18–20, 2026, the three-day festival boasts over 100 bands spanning the absolute best of heavy rock, punk, alternative, indie, and hip-hop.
The Heavy Hitters
Leading the charge for the 2026 edition are progressive metal titans Tool, alt-rock icons Twenty One Pilots, post-hardcore powerhouse Pierce The Veil, and alternative royalty Alanis Morissette.
But Riot Fest has always been about depth, and the top of the bill is packed with legends. Prepare your vocal cords for a stellar lineup of co-headliners and massive names, including Rise Against, Social Distortion, Bad Religion, Alkaline Trio, The All-American Rejects, Taking Back Sunday, Descendents, Pennywise, and Bright Eyes.
Legends and Rare Sets
True to form, Riot Fest 2026 is bridging the gap between absolute punk blueprints and modern torchbearers. This year’s undercard reads like a music history book, featuring:
- The Icons: Iggy Pop, Morrissey, Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Pixies, and Patti Smith & Her Band. CBS News
- The Rare Splits & Special Projects: A highly anticipated appearance by the Sex Pistols fronted by Frank Carter, a massive set from Sugar (Bob Mould’s legendary 90s alt-rock band), and the return of local indie-rock favorites Twin Peaks and The Format. Loudwire
- Hip-Hop Pioneers: Legendary lyricist Nas and genre-bender Santigold are set to bring massive energy to the park. CBS News
Rounding out the stacked rock undercard are scene favorites like Thrice, Less Than Jake, Bowling For Soup, GWAR, Bayside, Motion City Soundtrack, PUP, and The Beths.

More Than Just Music
Beyond the ear-splitting guitar riffs, Riot Fest is bringing back its signature carnival atmosphere, complete with rides, immersive attractions, food vendors, and plenty of “organized chaos.”
In a hilarious and uniquely Chicago twist, local weather legend Tom Skilling is confirmed to make an in-person appearance on-site to deliver weather forecasts directly to festival-goers – a nod to his unexpected fan-favorite status during last year’s weather delays.
Organizers also noted that Riot Fest will continue its deep community roots in North Lawndale, providing local vendor workshops, paid internships, and free admission tickets for neighborhood residents of Douglass Park.
