Scarlet : Cult Classic

Scarlet

The storm has officially arrived, in the form of this devastating new album by SCARLET! This whole album shreds with an intensity, focus, and fire I have never heard in grindcore. Most grindcore bands make their songs conglomerates of extremely technical parts, meshed with extremely silly and/or pointless lyrics and song titles, however the almighty SCARILY avoid those trappings with ease. These guys definitely have their own original way of doing things, whether it comes to their music or imagery! Vocalist Jonathan Spencer delivers scathing lyrics that attack American Culture. The first track O.D. starts out frantically fast with such lyrics being sung as Welcome to the world of the manic depressed / I lopped up on valium and in cardiac arrest Track 4 Suicide Soldier has more of a thrash metal feel at times and has such lyrics as Hey suicide soldier / I’ve got enough matches to burn down Rome / I ll give you something to live for This album becomes very interesting on Track 5 Life Support which just oozes of despair and desperation, Life.Fake.Money-Make sounds like an attack on organized religion, and reaches a frightening climax on Fluorescent Sunshine, which attacks corporate America yuppie scum with a violent intensity. This album doesn’t let up, and last heavy track, simply known as Untitled closes the intensity off with a final spit of lyrical venom. The Sky is falling on a T.V. screen / Mass hysteria for an American Dream / The Antichrist is coming to kill off your young / Load your firearms / Because security is a warm gun! pretty much sums up this band’s mission agenda. The album closes at track 16, with the slowly creepy as hell song You’re My Fix which is written from the eyes of a stalker. The artwork is original, very well put-together, and extremely thought provoking. The artwork is unique, even down to having the bar-code on the front of the album, instead of putting the barcode traditionally on the back! Great effort from this band, they will definitely make a name for themselves in the metal and hardcore games! [u:1401098dd1]Editor’s Note[/u:1401098dd1]: This band like to refer to their fan base at the Suicide Cult and for good reason… .this is a band I see people becoming fanatical over.
