Metallica closed the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards with a jam medley of Lenny Kravitz’s Are You Gonna Go My Way, Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, the White Stripes Seven Nation Army and Michael Jackson’s Beat It before the band’s latest, Frantic. As expected, the show was light on rock music, with perhaps the highlight being by the steamy sight of Madonna kissing Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera during the show’s opening number.
