Darkest Hour : November 19th, 2004 : Houston, TX

Well what a contrast this show is (of course) turning out to be from the other night. Compared to the other night at very clean Toyota Center for the Metallica / Godsmack show, this is where the real rock and roll underground is at… A Darkest Hour show in the ’scenic Heights area of Houston, TX. When I say scenic (note the sarcasm) I meant all the homeless crackheads trying to score money for their next fix of dope in front of a liquor store, plain clothes cops trying to bust kids, and the weirdo locals of the neighborhood threatening to let their vicious attack dogs loose to attack concert-goers. Yep, it’s a lovely side of town that would make the late Mother Theresa carry an 9mm Uzi with her! Thank goodness my buddy Tito took care of me and put me on Darkest Hour’s guest list. It helped out greatly on the wallet.

On a quick note, there was another major contrast compared to the other night at the Metallica show… the club had about 4 stage lights, compared to Metallica’s massive big dollar lighting right… .yep, we are at a real rock and roll show now! Anywho, well first up was Fear Before The March Of Flames and they were ok, but could not hold my attention. Cattle Decapitation… with their Carcass meets Slayer sound… did excellent, and played so hard their drummer broke a drum pedal, but still kept on playing like it never happened. That is professionalism on their part!

Between The Buried And Me gave it their emo / grindcore all and sounded good, but at the end of the day I was there for one reason and one reason only… DARKEST HOUR!!!!!  Darkest Hour did an excellent job as usual, blasting out the heaviest metal in the land, which stirred up copious amounts of circle pits and stave dives! The band opened with ]For the Soul Of The Savior and blasted through such songs as An Epitaph, Sadist Nation, and Oklahoma]. Indeed a fun night, only how Darkest Hour can deliver.  – said Joshua V. on Nov 11, 2004

I SAW THESE GUYS AT THE METALENIUM TOUR OPENING FOR SIX FEET UNDER,OUT OF THE EIGHT BANDS OR SO THESE GUYS RULED WITH THEIR AMERICAN TAKE ON SWEDISH MUSIC,AS AN ASIDE,GOD FORBID,MASTADON AND LAMB OF GOD WERE ALL VERY UNIMPRESSIVE WHEN HELD UP AGAINST THESE GUYS,I RECKON THATS WHY THEYRE MORE POPULAR,STAY UNDERGROUND! – said zrawk on Dec 12, 2004
